The East West Link is a freeway standard road linking the Eastern
Freeway at Hoddle Street with the Western Ring Road in Sunshine West. It
extends over 18 kilometres and would be constructed using a combination
of methods, including tunnels, bridging and surface road sections. Key
connections include the Eastern Freeway, Tullamarine Freeway, Port of
Melbourne and the Western Ring Road.
The Victorian Government yesterday announced that it would allocate $294 million towards the East
West Link project as part of the 2013-14 Budget.
This means that Linking Melbourne Authority will now begin formal planning for the eastern section of the East West Link. While the first stage targeted for development is between the Eastern Freeway and CityLink.
